Tiki Bar Review #54 The Bamboo Club – Long Beach CA

Scream for me Long Beach! The Bamboo Club!

If you’re of a fan of the metal band Iron Maiden, then you’ll get the reference, if not, I’ll just get down to business and tell you how much I like this tiki bar!

The Bamboo Club is located in Long Beach California, which is south of downtown Los Angeles. It can be a little bit of a trek to get down to, but trust me, The Bamboo Club is worth the trip.

Bamboo Ben did the build out for The Bamboo Club and he did an incredible job. The space has a feeling that the bar has always been a tiki bar, not something that was just created a couple of months ago.

The tiki décor isn’t over the top but I kind of like that, it gives the feeling that this tiki bar could have been around back in the sixties. The bar feels cozy but not small and you’ve got to love these tiki hut booths that you can chill out in!

Let’s head on up to the bar and have some drinks …

The drink menu isn’t huge but it has all the important classic tiki cocktails that you would want. I don’t need a wide variety of cocktails, just give me a handful of really good drinks made well and I’m a happy guy!

I’m all about the classics so for my first drink I went with a drink I haven’t had in a long time, a Singapore Sling.

Yep! That’s just how I remembered it. The drink was well balanced and delicious. In fact, I can pretty much say that about all the drinks I had at The Bamboo Club. Here’s what else I had, a Mai-Tai …

A Three Dots And A Dash …

And a Navy Grog …

Dustin Rodriguez is the head bartender at The Bamboo Club and he knocked it out of the park with his tiki mixology skills!

It just so happened that The Damned was playing a show a couple of blocks down the street that night and Pinch (the drummer for The Damned) and his wife Miranda stopped in for a couple Mai-Tai’s before the punk rock shenanigans would begin that night. Miranda and Pinch are totally into tiki and in fact Miranda is the woman behind Tiki Trader San Diego. I had a blast chatting it up with them and everyone else at the bar.

That’s what I love about a tiki bar, you never know what to expect. You may see a tiki drink get lit on fire or you may run into a member of one of your favorite punk bands! Either way, I had a great time at The Bamboo Club and you will too!

Leaving The Bamboo Club to head back up to Seattle was the hardest thing to do. I loved it!
