It Isn’t Tiki But Damn! #4 Last Rites – San Francisco CA

Imagine you’re on an airplane …

It crashes into the jungle …

You’re still alive …

So, you and the rest of the survivors turn the wreckage of the airplane into a bar …

This is Last Rites …

The first thing I noticed when I walked inside Last Rites was the chairs. I don’t know if they were made from actual seats from an airplane but they really set up the experience at Last Rites.

The idea is that you’re in a plane that crashed in the jungle and when I look up and see what would be part of the airplane, I’m totally sold on this scenario.

The entire space is long and narrow with various tropical plants found along the wall. I love the tropical feel of this room.

Last Rites doesn’t feel cramped though, because the booths and tables stretch way to the back. Last Rites is actually pretty big.

Eventually you will come across this giant skull. This skull is HUGE! It’s as tall as the ceiling! Nothing says danger more than a giant skull staring at you.

Even though Last Rites isn’t technically a tiki bar (there aren’t any tikis) their menu is filled with drinks that would be right at home in a tiki bar. Here’s the menu …

Not only is the menu set up to look like a flight log, it is also very informative. I like how the ingredients for the drinks are checked off. I went with a Last Rites.

This drink was awesome! It’s a sweeter drink that has passion fruit and molasses. This type of drink is totally my flavor profile!

Last Rites truly creates a unique experience. It has a tropical feel, and actually now that I think about it, a military feel as well. Last Rites is a little outside of downtown San Francisco but I assure it’s worth the trip. I never thought drinking in the wreckage of an airplane could be so much fun!

Love Last Rites! Caveat: their drinks are stronger than most; drink w/ care. By any chance, do you remember SF’s The Caribbean Zone? They actually used the real body of an airplane in the same basic concept.

Met some friends there for birthday drinks. Every drink we had was outstanding. And the bartender chatted with us to make the experience a lot more fun

PS I did go to the Caribbean bar a couple of times I don’t remember the drinks but the decor was amazing
