It Isn’t Tiki But Damn! #1 Betty Danger’s Country Club – Minneapolis MN

I don’t even know where to begin with this …

When it comes to bars or restaurants, it’s important to create an experience that is unique and can’t be duplicated elsewhere. I think it’s safe to say that there is no other place quite like Betty Danger’s Country Club …

Before there was Betty Danger’s, there was Psycho Suzi’s …

Psycho Suzi’s Motor Lodge is Minneapolis’s best tiki bar. Ever since I started traveling the country visiting tiki bars, I knew I had to hit Psycho Suzi’s. The place surpassed my expectations …

It’s huge! It has two floors completely decked out in tiki.

But what I liked most about Psycho Suzi’s was the feel of the place. It felt like it has been around for decades, when it has actually only been around for one (nine years to be exact).

But Psycho Suzi’s story didn’t start in 2010, it actually started back in 2003. Psycho Suzi’s used to be a couple blocks up the street, where Betty Danger’s Country Club is now located…

There is a connection between Suzi and Betty and her name is Leslie Bock. She is the creator of both Psycho Suzi’s and Betty Danger’s and I think she’s a genius.

She came up with the idea of Betty Danger’s Country Club and the backstory of Betty. I borrowed this excerpt from Betty Danger’s webpage because it explains the story way better than I could …

“Betty is the youngest sibling of the Van Der Bock family. When Betty was 5, she went to a country club with her parents. When she tried to play with some other little girls at the club, they made fun of her mismatched tartans and lack of croquet etiquette, causing Betty to become very distraught. She began running wildly across the golf course with tears streaming down her swollen face towards what she thought was a gorilla, a Ferris wheel, and a pack of green ponies but passed out on the lawn due to hyperventilation and hysteria. Her parents took her home. She arrived safe at home in her bed and when she awoke, she vowed to open her own country club someday … one that welcomes everyone!”

Betty Danger’s is a country club for the deranged and I fit right in! I’ll start off by describing Betty Danger’s Country Club, piece by piece. The first thing that stands out is the large Ferris wheel, or should I say “the vertically revolving patio”?

The official name of the Ferris wheel is The Danger, and rightfully so, because you can drink on it. On the other side of the building you’ll find a miniature golf course …

It’s called the Poodles and Palms Putt and Play, and the story goes that these are Betty Danger’s imaginary pets, so be careful!

This is the front room or I guess you could call it the “horizontal non-revolving patio”

Here is the bar …

And dining area …

The bar and dining area are very classy, yet there is always something off, just slightly. The devil is in the details …

Ha! You might have thought I was catching up with my reading but this is actually the menu …

It reads like a book because it is!

If you visit Betty Danger’s, you have to get a Margarita! This is the Dartmouth …

Tequila, peppers and cucumbers. Was it spicy? Hell Yeah!

Betty Danger’s is truly a unique place and if you’re visiting Minneapolis, I highly suggest you make it a part of your visit. This a bar that serves strong Margaritas, has a Ferris wheel that you can drink on, and a miniature golf course (have you ever tried playing miniature golf drunk?), all painted in glorious day-glow colors! Betty Danger’s Country Club could be your worst nightmare or your best dream come true. Give Betty a visit and find out!
