It’s one thing to borrow the name of a tiki drink to use as your home tiki bar’s name but it’s even better when you were too drunk to remember the drink you wanted to name your bar after! This is the case of The Blue Ka-Tiki. Dwayne and his wife really enjoyed their drink at Trader Sam’s. The drink was so good that they couldn’t remember what it was called! I can tell you this, it wasn’t called a Blue Ka-Tiki…

Tiki Modern…
We have all heard the term but do we really know what Tiki Modern is. Tiki Modern is the perfect combination of Tiki and Mid-Century Modern. The look is clean, streamlined and cool unlike traditional Tiki that tends to be more cluttered. If you want a great example of Tiki Modern look no further that Dawn Frasier’s home: The Bamboo Grove Of Westwood. I will let the pictures do the talking…

Matthew K. and I have know each other for a long time…
We both grew up in the Coal Region of Pennsylvania, and I consider Matthew K. to be one of my best friends. Matthew K.’s musical tastes have always been on the darker side of music. I’m talking industrial, Goth, noise, experimental, etc. Matthew K. went onto write and create his own music as well. We’ve known each other since the mid 90’s and both have grown an interest in Tiki. I actually didn’t even know Matthew K. had an interest in Tiki until a few years ago. If anyone would be an Unlikely Tiki, it would be Matthew K. I’ll let him take it from here…

Tennessee, the birthplace of country and western music. Right?
This might be true but country and western pulled some of it’s sound from Hawaii by borrowing one instrument: the steel guitar!

Punk rock, wrestling, comics and tiki!
It’s awesome to discover other people that are into Tiki. It’s even better when there are other commom interests as well. I came across the blog: Cult Of George and I knew imediatley that I met a kindred spirit. George Koroneos, the man behind Cult Of George writes about wrestling, punk, metal, comics and Tiki bars. All things that I love as well! I grew up in Pennsylvania right next to New Jersey where George lives. I have a feeling that we have been to some of the same rock shows over the years. I live out in Seattle now but hopefully our paths will cross again at a Tiki bar real soon. I will let George take it from here…

Hey Gang! I would like you to meet Nadia Reddy. She wrote and illustrated the first Tiki children’s picture book ever! It’s called Tiki ABC. The story is simple, Nadia wanted a children’s Tiki picture to read to her baby. She searched around and found that none existed, so she wrote her own. I love that! If you want something and it doesn’t exist, create it yourself. Here is Nadia’s story…
