What is the oldest bar in Seattle?

I’m finding out that the answer isn’t as simple as it might seem. I definitely got this sense as I’m talking with Peter Andrijeski of Seattlebars.org. “You have to think about a few things,” Peter said. How long has the bar been in business? How old is building? A bar may be in a building that’s really old, but that doesn’t mean the bar itself is that old as well. The correct answer is the Merchant’s Café, which is located in the oldest part of Seattle: Pioneer Square.

A few years ago, Peter had the grand idea to have a drink at every bar in Seattle. That’s right gang: every bar in Seattle. How would one go about doing this? Can this even be accomplished? Peter was going to find out!

Long story short, Peter did actually go to every bar in Seattle! He’s still going, actually. If a new bar opens up, Peter will go and have a drink there.

Peter created a website to document all the bars that he visited. It’s called Seattlebars.org.

On the website, there is a FAQ where you can find answers to questions such as what is the oldest bar in Seattle? What is the oldest bar in Washington State? How many new bars open in Seattle every year? You also can get an answer to the most important question for Peter, which is why is he doing this?

After Peter hit every bar in Seattle, he set his sights on the rest of the country. The website is called Seattlebars.org, but you can find Peter’s reviews on bars all across the country. This is why I’m talking about Peter’s webpage on my Tiki blog.

If you know Peter, then you know he has one of the coolest home Tiki bars in Seattle: the Monkey Skull Voodoo Lounge. Peter puts on an annual Tiki party and it’s off the hook! Bands play, bartenders are hired, and hundreds of people come out. Click here to read my spotlight on Peter’s bar.

If anyone knows and loves Tiki bars, it’s Peter and he’s been to most of the good Tiki bars across the country. You can go on his website, choose a city or keyword like “Tiki,” and read what he has to say about any given bar. I can tell you from my personal experiences that trying to figure out what Tiki bars to check out in a city can be tough. Peter has done the ground work for you. If Peter hasn’t been to a particular Tiki bar, it probably wasn’t worth going to.

Do you want to know what’s priceless? Knowing someone who knows where the cool bars are! Peter Andrijeski is that someone. Check out Seattlebars.org now!
