The seeds of tiki were planted for me when I stepped foot in The Jungle Room at Graceland twenty some odd years ago and the same is true for Grey. Grey’s grandparents took him to Graceland when he was young and it made an impression on him. Grey came to Graceland as a fan of Elvis and after seeing The Jungle Room, he also became a fan of Witco! Tiki Kon 2019 Pageant Of The Pacific: Day Two – Tony Starlight, The Libertine Belles , The Starella Sisters And Elvis!

The theme of Tiki Kon this year was Pageant Of The Pacific and it conjured up pictures in my mind of a time when people would dress up and go out to fancy supper clubs where they would dine, dance and be entertained. Saturday’s entertainment was all about creating this experience with an incredible variety show that truly felt like it was taken out of the 40’s.

It has been a rainy year so far up in the Pacific Northwest. It’s no joke: it rains a lot, but usually things start to get nicer by May and the weather is perfect until October. Not this year. It’s already well into July and I’m driving through one rainstorm after another on my three-hour trek down from Seattle to Portland for Tiki Kon 2016. The Tiki lifestyle is all about escapism. I’m looking forward to a weekend of Tiki drinks and entertainment, room parties, and getting to see some home Tiki bars along the way. I’ll spoil the ending: Tiki Kon 2016 was a blast and for three days I forgot that it was the middle of July and I’m still wearing a raincoat!

When you start getting into Tiki bars you realize quickly that not all Tiki bars are created equal. There are different ways you can go with a Tiki theme. I’m mostly into the traditional Tiki bar. I like Tiki bars that provide an escape and create a mood of relaxation…
